I have a question regarding an annoying 'chugging' sensation in my kidneys. I find it very bothersome and lately I'm experiencing pain in my kidney regions - both sides! It often happens when I am trying to sleep or relax. It seems almost as if my kidneys are trying to filter something very large & are struggling to do so... even when this is not happening I feel pressure around my kidneys.

Any ideas as to what would cause this type of symptom? Should I drink more water or consider doing a kidney flush?

You might consider something quite acidic, like cranberry juice (unsweetened) or lemon water with a little cayenne and honey and see what happens.

Thanks Ingrid!

I will try it - is this something I should be sipping at all day, say 3 or 4 glasses per day? What do you think?

I'll let you know what happens... :-)

Right, but you could also buy some test strips to measure your urine so you can see if it is acidic enough to dissolve mineral deposits and blockage.

It's funny that you mention the test strips... :-) I just bought a bottle of them about 3 weeks ago. According to the strips, my Ph was good, as was alkalinity... I used the strips over a course of several days, 1 hour before a meal & 1 hour after. It showed absolutely no change, so if there were any they were very minute, still keeping me in the normal range.

I have always had symptoms with my kidneys & there seems to be no rhyme or reason. I have had no diagnosis, but I am pretty in tune with my body. When my hips are bothering me - I also have the chugging symptoms in my kidneys...

Should I retest with the strips after I start with the cranberry or lemon juice? I have not started it yet, as I have come down with a severe migrane & have been in bed almost 24 hours :-( Just got up a couple of hours ago & am nearly at my limit of tolerance for any light (especially the monitor screen!) so will probably head back soon. Been taking a product called Clear the Pain - traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Might just go back to Ferrum Phosphate instead. I am not usually one to have headaches - never mind migranes. I've had perhaps 3 migranes in my entire life.

Let me know what you think about the juice & testing strips. Thanks!

Deana,

Maybe I should ask what range you are considering as "normal?"

One little trick that sometimes works for migraines is plain old garlic-mullein ear drops (in olive oil.) Some people use the Christopher tincture and some use the ear drops (in the ear) and many report quick relief. Anything is worth a try.

Thanks Ingrid!

I have a bottle of garlic mullein here from Gaia - I have used for ear troubles, mostly for the dog. She has long floppy ears, so they get irritated, I guess from lack of air flow.

As for the test strips, we used the ones for testing pool water. We were told as long as they have the acid/alkaline test they should be okay. When I did the tests they were always in the normal range on the bottle. I haven't got it with me as I gave it to my brother-in-law to do some tests on himself. I believe the tests work, as they showed my husband to be extremely alkaline - he eats mostly vegan, but will eat eggs or poultry 2 or 3 X per year. Myself, I am not a vegetarian, but I will eat organic dairy & eggs. Occasional organic poultry. I cannot remember the colors on the test bottle, but I do know for sure it said I was in the normal range & my husband was high alkaline.

My husband feels that you likely cannot get an accurate read because - no matter what, the body will neutralize the acid in the urine with calcium taken from the bones. I guess what he's saying is, the only true way to test would be with a bone - density test. I am unsure as to his theory. Why did he show in the extreme alkaline & mine showed normal?

He also says that when he's acid, his hair is soft & falling out. When he's more alkaline, it's coarse & does not fall. Same goes for his teeth - acid, many teeth troubles & loose feeling of teeth - when he's alkaline they feel strong & healthier. I haven't noticed anything with my hair, but with my teeth I'm sure he's right about that.

Does any of this make sense to you?

Thanks again for your input... :-)

Unlike water and blood, urine pH can span a fairly wide range: from 4.6 (acidic) to 8.0 range. The manner of collection of the sample and testing may influence the reading. You might want to do some web searching to determine whether or not the test strips you are using and method of testing are suitable in your circumstances. There are lots of sites discussing this subject, but you might want to look at the work done by Ream since it is very well focused and generally fairly highly regarded.
