Hello,
This is strange and it's the first time i've noticed anything like it before.

I'm 40. I've had fillings in my right and left, upper and lower molers <sp? for years. I wish I didn't and look forward to removing them.

The strange thing that I've noticed is that lately, when I eat raw salad (which I haven't done in quite some time), I'm getting a sort of numb and metalic taste/sensation on both sides of my tongue as well as feeling that when I'm chewing, there is some sort of a metalic/"chemical"? reaction going on in or from? my teeth. It's difficult to explain so that's the best I can do at the moment.
It goes away eventually (hours) but a very slight sense of it remains. In the morning it's clear even after I brush my teeth.

It seems to be related to eating vegetables. For example, when I chew on pumpkin seeds I haven't noticed it. Although, since this began last week I'm not sure if I'm done any intense chewing on anything but vegies so I'll have to experiment.

All my vegetables are always organic by the way.

Is this familiar and/or do you know or have a sense of what this could be? It's really disturbing. I almost stopped eating tonight and at this moment I feel whatever this is at the back of my tongue as well.

Thank you,
Azure

I just wanted to add that though i mentioned my filling at the beginning of the post, I'm not assuming that there is a connection. I just don't have any other idea of what this is.

Azure,

I don't know either, but it might be that there is a chemical reaction occurring between certain foods or enzymes in your mouth or even pH of your saliva that is causing the reaction at times and not other times. It's not uncommon for metallic tastes to come and go, but it obviously isn't pleasant.

You said fillings. You didn't actually say "mercury amalgam fillings" but I guess this is what you meant. They are unstable so temperature and even something like changing your salad dressing could affect it. In tests that were performed in a hair analysis lab, they had someone with fillings bite a gauze, just like you do when the dentist is checking new restorations for bite. They incinerated a fresh gauze straight out of the package and the one that had been pressed a bit against the teeth. There was a detectable amount of mercury on the gauze that had touched the fillings. In short, it doesn't take much to leech mercury from the teeth, but there are all sorts of chemical imbalances that could give rise to similar sensations. If they persist, I would certainly try to find out what is causing the problem.

the chemical reaction that you speak of sounds/feels right because the taste/sensation varies so much depending on which food (of relatively equal hardness) i eat. and when i first noticed this i was very aware of my saliva and felt that it was "in" it and that it was "carrying" the taste/sensation, if that makes sense. i don't know if this is literally true or not but that's what i've imagined.
i've been on the ejuva cleanse for an extended period of time (i don't know if you're familiar with ejuva but one can stay on any of the 4 phases for any length of time - i go very slowly because i'm so sensitive) and this "reaction" coincided with a deepening of the cleanse. one of the things that the ejuva cleanse addresses are metals in the system.
also, after eating no raw foods for a very long time, i just started to incorporate more into my diet.
and there are all sorts of other changes of being happening as well.
thank you very much for your response.
:-),

You might be mobilizing metals. If so, you need to be sure that they are eliminated, not just dislodged, circulated, and reabsorbed!

Best wishes,

Ingrid

this cleared about 2 days ago. it was not pleasant but it was interesting. yikes!
ejuva cleanse is a beautiful thing truly. for me, i should say ... for me. every body different.
i have the utmost respect for it. i've used it a number of times over the past 7 years. there web-site doesn't do it justice.
unfortunately, the creator of the cleanse sold the company last year but at least he did so with the stipulation that nothing be changed and nothing has been changed except for the packaging.

thanks again,
Azure

Anonymous---

I just read a piece on Mercury poisoning that described your father's symptoms to a "t". Perhaps have his Dr. test his Mercury levels and see if perhaps he isn't experiencing some kind of poisoning.

I have just read these postings, at the moment I have a metalic taste in my mouth, I have all but gotton over a very bad coughing spree, a dry cough for 2 weeks then very bad sinus, which lead to coughing up clear mucus so there was no infection , but last night I eat brussel sprouts with dinner , there were some left in the pot , I ate them later when they were cold, I wonder if any of these things caused the taste, help!!!!

Biotoxin illness causes it. http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/learnmore/ciguatera.cfm

If you develop a metallic taste or reversal of hot and cold sensation, your astute Family Practice physician may recognize the possibility of chronic ciguatera.

Ihave had a metallic taste for about three months. I also have a watery mouth sensation at all times, and a tiny numbness at the tip of my tongue.. I do not take any medications that have these side effects. Food tastes o.k. but as soon as I eat, the feelings reoccure. Brushing my teeth does not help, in fact it worsens..

I have had a metallic bitter taste in my mouth for three weeks now and it is very frustrating. Everything I eat tastes bitter. I get very hot at times during the day when everybody else claim that it is cold. I also wake up in the middle of the night (every night) with a very fast and irregular heart beat. I don't know if these symptoms are related at all. Yesterday and today I had the irregular heart beat while I was going up the stairs. With each irregular beat I had a pain that felt like a muscular pain. About 5 to 10 minutes after these episodes, the bitter/mettalic taste in my mouth gets very strong. We have to wait so long to see a doctor and to have tests taken and analysed! In the meantime is very frustating and stressful.

I made chili the other day, aprox. 50# for a group dinner. Tasting it it has a distinct metalic taste to me. Is there anything I can add such as sugar or raw potatoes or anything that would delute the metalic taste. I've cooked it many times in the past and never had this problem.
