Dear Ingrid,

Is it possible to create a new discussion folder instead of creating a subtopic in a folder where it might not have any relevance to the main topic?

Thank you!

You can always start a new discussion under this topic (or any other) and I can create a proper name for it and list it when I discover the post. If you think the matter needs quick attention, you can send an e-mail to me letting me know that you posted and want to have the topic defined. I just did this with your post on ear infections. Creating a new topic requires administrative access (and this is limited to in house folks.)

i have become a terribly light sleeper. the slightest touch from my husband wakes me up. even when sleeping alone i never make it through the night. although i fall right back to sleep, it would be nice to make it right through to morning. i often feel like i am not getting enough rest because of this. i also prefer it when my husband sleeps downstairs. note; we are happily married. i just can't sleep with anyone else in the bed! i recently tried Ambien and loved it only do not feel comfortable taking a "sleeping pill". Any advise on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Taking carminative herbs before bedtime relaxes the nerves and neutralizes the winds that circulate to the detriment of deep peacefulness. This is much better than warm milk and honey.

Ginger, galangal, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves are great . . . and maybe boldo instead of mint.

Hello. My dad is about 73. He has had lots of back injuries which have led to lots of surgery/medications. He is also having pain in his bones and back all the time. The medication eats at his liver and causes all sorts of digestion problems. He also feels sick to his stomach all the time.

My Mom called tonight and we were talking about other ways to address, and or help him.

My wife was having gall blatter attacks a few weeks ago and I stumbled on this web site. I got her 6 bottles of stone free and a bunch of apple juice. Her pain has not come back since.

So I found success with her, now for Dad. Any ideas???

Eric,

I'm glad the herbs helped your wife.

Basically, the older a person is, the more caution we need when introducing changes. All change, even really beneficial change, requires adaptation and flexibility tends to weaken with age.

There is also the question of interactions between herbs and medications. While some of the possible interactions are known, many are not. Most herbalists assume that their patients are not taking any prescription medications. The reason for this is that the inherited literature on which their educations were based is traditional, coming from a time in history that predates modern medicine . . . so obviously, they haven't learned what the interactions are.

This said, some things are relatively more risk-free than others. All pain is due to the air element and this increases with age. It is aggravated by cold and dryness and is lessened by warmth and moisture. The obvious answer is to introduce slightly seasoned warm oils into the diet, good quality oils that have rejuvenative potential (as opposed to the normal oils found in supermarkets.) I personally really like to see older patients using cold pressed, organic sesame oil. It's nutritious and quite deep in its action. It also helps a lot with people who have been x-rayed (which I am assuming to be the case because of the injuries you mentioned.)

All of the Eastern systems of medicine are based on concepts of deficiency and the need to tonify and regenerate by supplying what is lacking. This requires good assimilation, i.e. adequate output of gastric secretions or supplementation with enzymes and such. It also depends on proper functioning of the colon because the nutrients needed to regenerate bones are assimilated in the large intestine. It therefore needs to be clean, efficient, and properly populated with intestinal flora.

So, Eric, if you can convince your parents to make modest changes, you may get their attention when it comes to deeper and deeper improvements in time. The discouraging part of these therapies is that it takes nearly three months to see the improvements in a visible way: nicer skin, hair, fingernails. Then, you know that good things are happening inside also.

Ingrid, I am trying to follow your advice on the gallbladder section - and very grateful I am too -especially if I do avoid surgery.
My partner gets very poorly with diverticulitis. Unusually he has never suffered from constipation and goes regularly three times a day. The medical profession has given no advice at all but he has changed his diet over the past couple of years and has salad and three or four apples every day plus psyllium, probiotics and garlic capsules. He also went for healing after a cancerous polyp was found in the colon. After that things improved a lot, but he's back to square one now. Do you know of anything else he can try?
Thank you

Dear Ingrid,
I just found out my body constitution on your medical astrology site today. It said I was air-water (air-34% water 32%). I'm also overweight, and have intestinal gas everytime I eat a heavy meal(light meals usually don't give me gas). What kind of foods and spices would you reccomend me to take in order to loose fat, and cure indigestion.
thank you
sincerely,

Subroto,

Basically, almost all spices promote the flow of saliva and gastric juices. Therefore, they improve digestion and metabolism, but some people require enzymes as well.

Subroto,

I don't really have all the answers here. You are asking about specific diseases whereas what I really do is cast the horoscope and see what the imbalances are. From these, I try to come up with life style changes that might adjust the imbalances. Whether or not a disease would go into remission once these measures are taken is impossible to predict. Normally, once balance is achieved, conditions cease to deteriorate, but how much they ameliorate is rarely predictable.

Assuming that the enlarged breasts are at least partially the result of overweight and that this is due to metabolic weaknesses, one would assume that metabolic stimulants would not only harmonize digestion and obviate the risk of obesity but burn off the excess that has been accumulated while the imbalance persisted.

It would be utterly impossible for me to predict whether the breast fat would reduce or whether your body would start producing more testosterone. These are very deep questions that most likely could not be answered any better in a private consultation than on the web. This much, however, is certain, it is always better to have good metabolism so starting with this goal would have merit. If other issues start to self correct, that would indeed be a welcome bonus.

Good luck.

Hi Ingrid,
3 yrs. ago I was exposed to sewer gases, asbestos, mold and other unknown substances on the job for over a month. Since my employer was a state agency they have denied any further medical treatment once they realized I was very very ill (my clients had a 1 time exposure). My office had 2 uncapped sewer vent lines. Of course my employer has tried to conceal the facts. I have been following a chemical poisoning diet, and have added different herbs as I have learned more to help myself. My lungs were mainly affected. Last Sept. I finally found organic germanium and have been taking it since; I also take organic flax seed oil with yogurt. I have had several splits occur in my lung. It's extremely painful. I now realize I'm loaded with parasites(gross, but I saw them and freaked out)from inhaling and ingesting the sewer gases. I'm taking black walnut and drink Melaleuca tea. I have just started taking that 2 times a day. The last split in my right lung occurred 2 mos. ago. It really set me back. I'm now very bloated (liver) and have recently started to take olive oil (1 T) w/cup of hot water w/1/2 lemon. I have started to take milk thistle, cats claw and chickweed. Just before a split happens I start a really ugly cough, for that I use oregano juice (1 T w/ 1 T honey; I usually eat oatmeal in the morning with it). No doctor can explain the extreme pain in my right lung or why my liver is bloating. I live in a small town and most doctors here seem only interested in lung cancers from smoking. I've had a lung scan and yesterday was tested for hepititis ( came back normal). I don't eat red meat. If I eat meat it's chicken or steelhead trout or rainbow trout cleaned with lemon juice baked or grilled w/herbs. I don't eat this more than once a day. I prefer to eat vegetables and fruit, almonds and salads besides the yogurt. If I don't eat I get very weak, and am extremely fatigued. I recently started taking 5,000 mg b12, bee pollen and blue-green algae (I now can stay awake but have to rest frequently). Are there any tests that can show what is happening to me? Would going to a toxicologist be the doctor to go to? I don't have the money or patience to bounce doctor to doctor. I won't take synthetic medications. Is there any way to speed up detoxing the parasites without getting really sick? Is there any thing else that I should be doing to help myself. Is there someone that I should be going to for this? How long does this last? It seems that just as I start feeling halfway decent I have another massive attack. Reading your article on parasites has helped since the description of what others felt like is the same. The biting and creepy crawling feeling inside me, it's accompanied by a burning in my lung where the most splits have occurred. I now only get the killer headaches when a split happens. The black walnut and hot tea take care of the headache in usually 20 mins. I really appreciate any information. Are there any websites that I should go to or books that I can find out more about what is happening to me? Thanks.

Peggy,

This is a hair raising account. You seem to be doing so many things correctly. My guess is that most doctors would regard you as a hypochondriac and probably ignore your symptoms because they do not fit their mindset. This said, it's difficult to know what is going on. The kind of blood testing that I described in my article on this site requires a very special microscope and the ability to use that microscope well. I know many people with microscopes but they never see what I posted because they aren't exploring the slides well enough.

My experience with the parasite protocols is that you don't really have an option about whether to go faster or slower. If the dose is too low, the parasites aren't affected. If the dose is high enough to knock off some parasites, it very likely would knock off all of them. We saw a few instances in which really gigantic parasites survived the first round of destruction.

I got a lot of email after posting that article. Practitioners wrote about two-foot long parasites they removed from the blood. I was shocked. I don't know if this is possible, but how do we find out. The pictures I posted were mainly based on blood samples from the fingers, one single drop of blood might contain hundreds of parasites. This is a staggering figure. Obviously, it would be better if everyone who thinks he or she might have parasites could have this checked out, but the reality is 99% of such people won't find anyone to perform the tests.

This said, you might be a lucky one living near someone who can run the tests. You didn't mention where you are.

I wish you the best and might suggest garlic in your diet and jatoba for the mold (it's a South American herb.)

Hi Ingrid,

Thanks for answering my posting. I live in a small town in Texas. The exposure happened in Palestine, TX. I have since found out that the building, (particularly my office) had a sewer sink hole in 1991. The building sat vacant until we were moved into it. It was supposedly remodeled that March. I was moved into my office 4/02/01 thru 4/27/01 and they declared the building safe to reenter on June 21, 2001. I ended up in the emergency room June 27, 2001. I have been taking herbs conservatively since I wasn't sure. I have been reading up as much as I can find. I started taking garlic softgels. I have recently started taking 4,000 mg daily. What I'm doing for myself (thru trial and error) would take up too much space. I nearly died from this. It is extremely painful. I am being monitored by a doctor since 9/01 but the state ins. co. won't pay them. I have been told that I'm doing more for myself than what they can do for me. The lung specialists around here seem only interested in treating a person if they are smokers. They keep asking me if I smoke. I never have smoked. Anyway, my lungs have started splitting. Right after the first split, I added organic flax seed oil w/cottage cheese and fresh pineapple. For awhile it seemed I was getting better. The 2nd split, I added Germanium. Every thing seemed like it was going ok. Two months ago was the worst split. (The good side of it was I regained my voice). But, now my liver is swollen. I went for a hepatitis test and it came back negative. I did have a lung scan recently and it shows thoratic spurs in my lungs, (I have to look it up on the internet since I don't know what that is) I am being monitored monthly and will ask the doc. Beginning of the year I went and had my heart check out. I was told by the doctor that my heart was fine but that I was not in as good of shape as I probably thought I was. She wouldn't say any more. (rather rude). I was using black walnut for just 4 days a month. Two wks. ago I started drinking the melaleaca tea w/ 2 capsules of black walnut. I now use it twice a day. In the morning on an empty stomach and at night before I go to bed. After dinner I'm using 1 tablespoon olive oil w/ a cup hot water w/1/2 lemon. Some of the swelling has gone down. I cook from scratch and usually use a lot of garlic. I finally found some pictures of a worm. What came out of me was a round worm and a large brown egg. I also passed what looked like a lot of gray gun powder. It was a very very large amount. When I pass this stuff or I have a split in my lungs I get extremely sick and a killer headache, my stomach distends and it's very painful. Can you recommend some kind of tests that could identify what is happening to me? Unless I ask for a specific test, I get the run around. In this area they don't seem to know what they are doing. There is a high death rate here. Are there any books that I can read. I have only found a phamplet on parasites. I did find a good book on the liver and it has been helpful. There is some mention of parasites; but I need more info. I have read on the internet (I'm trying to find the site again), that sewer gases (besides the 4 toxic gases) contain deadly toxins that they don't have names for (swell!). I do know (from taking herb classes) how to muscle test myself now. When I start something I do test to see if everything I'm taking is compatible and if all is still needed to take. I have been told recently that the zapper described in Dr. Clark's book would be helpful in getting rid of the parasites. What are your thoughts on it? I'm willing to try most anything to get rid of this stuff. It's really creepy to feel like I'm being bitten inside my lung and to feel like something is trying to crawl out of the split and up my throat. (Happens when I lie down at night; the black walnut and tea seem to make it stop). My lung burns in the same spot. Jatoba, do I need a capsule or tea? Your website has been very helpful reading what others are experiencing and your recommendations. At least now I know I'm not crazy!! Are there doctors that specialize in parasites here in the states or we just on our own? What type of lab do I need to look for? You are very right about how some doctors treat me. (not the ones monitoring since they have seen my lungs mess up). Can I print the pictures of your blood tests for comparisons at the lab (if I can find one). Which article are they in? Thanks again!!

Hi,

I have a question regarding why some people drink an infusion of mandarin peel. I once came across an newspaper article on how one puts the peel in a glass and pours hot water over it and then drinks it, but I lost it.
Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me the medicinal benefits behind this 'drink'.

Thanks,

Peggy,

Lots and lots of questions here. I empathize with you.

The first thought I had was an old home remedy from India. The patient, usually a small child for whom heavy doses of herbs would probably not be recommended, sits on a bucket of warm milk. The parasites are supposedly attracted by the smell and voluntarily exit and fall into the bucket.

This is obviously the least invasive of all strategies one could imagine, but while I heard about it from Ayurvedic doctors in Bombay, I do not know anyone who are tried it. This said, we do know that the parasites are ambulatory. If you get into this, and it does seem your circumstances are forcing this upon you, you will find parasites with legs or fins, called flagellates. Depending on the type, they can move very quickly or not so quickly.

As for the photographs, I have some on this site:
http://www.kitchendoctor.com/healthconditions/parasites/blood_parasites.html. As you can see, some have really dangerous mouths and can suck a lot of blood, making patients anemic and tired. Then, of course, they eliminate and besides being gross is toxic to the host.

I can't recommend any specific tests because finding a competent lab is almost impossible. You need to find a doctor from a tropical country or cross the border into Mexico to find someone who will take you seriously.

As for your use of herbs, there is room for a more sophisticated approach. Garlic, of course, has merits, but what is lacking in most detoxification protocols is attention to the regeneration of the tissues that are ravaged by the disease.

Sometimes, it pays to step way back and see things in another context. In the affluent Western world, many people suffer from surfeit so there are many protocols designed to help eliminate excess cholesterol or weight. Detoxification basically entails removal of what is not needed but if someone is depleted, the further loss of mass is potentially dangerous. In the East, where masses of the population live close to the poverty line, there are elaborate protocols to rebuild and regenerate. In the best of worlds, we would combine some of the experiences of Western herbal medicine with some of the wisdom of the Orient.

In your case, I suspect you have two entirely different problems: chemical toxicity, both from the sewer gases and parasite by-products, and parasite invasion. Unfortunately, what is most helpful in eliminating the parasites will not necessarily alleviate the chemical toxicity except insofar as the pressures on your body are reduced.

I doubt you will find a qualified doctor in your area. They are simply too rare, but if you find someone you enjoy working with, I would be happy to network that practitioner with others who could brain storm what might help you the most.

Take care.

Ana,

Citrus peels of all types are used as flavoring. They are also carminative, which means they tend to alleviate gases in the gastrointestinal tract. Do not boil the peels. Boil the water, turn off the heat, then add the peels to your favorite tea. Cover the pot with a lid and let it stand for 15-20 minutes. Try to drink the tea while it is warm and do not let all the volatile oils escape. While this significantly enhances the aroma of your kitchen, it is the volatile oils that perform the most service to your body.

Be sure to use organic citrus. If you buy the fruit, you can save the peels in an open dish where there is good air circulation. This is important or the peels will develop mold. When the peels are completely dry, you can put them in an airtight container and save them for future use.

Our family has been living in India for the past 9 years. My husband has the following symptoms for many years...
1. headaches (as bad as miagrains, but not classic miagrain symptoms)
2. He gets small red spots on his hands and elbows. they are slightly raised, no itching, no pain, but these spots come and go and often come when he feels bad.
3. he often wakes up feeling nausiated
4. he often gets chest pains (but has gone through a series of tests and not heart problems were ever found.)
5. When we are having a good discussion... he often says, "just a minute, i need to run to the bathroom. and has loose motions or not too hard of stool.
6. My husband is 51 years and 200 lbs. he exercises daily (mostly because he often feels "dull" or bad. But I eat as much as he eats and he can NEVER loose any weight. I weigh 115 lbs. And it amazes me that he can't loose weight. His belly is exteded.
7. We often get our stool tested in India and they have never found anything! to my amazement.

I am especially concerned about these spots my husband gets. they are about 1/8 inch in diam.

I am posting this again, cause i don't know where it went.

Thanks for any advice... joanna

Joanna,

It is quite common that labs fail to find anything in the specimens sent for analysis. If they did find something, it would, of course, answer some questions; but when they do not find anything, it does not mean that nothing was there. Under the circumstances, it makes sense to do some parasite purging regardless of the negative lab reports. It is also, of course, likely that there are other parasites, not merely intestinal ones. It's difficult to protect oneself.

Good luck and give my love to Mother India!

She went from 130 lbs. down to 87 before the gall bladder was removed. It was so large that it pushed against her stomach and she could not eat. Now she eats but it passes right through her quickly.

DEar Ingrid,
My mother recently had a hernia operation where they merely pushed it back in for surgery later.
She is 65 years old. Do you have any suggestions on how she can alleviate her condition?
And my dad is going to have an eye surgery because of an additional layer of sheen on his eye due to old age..he is 75 years old. The doctors said that it is normal for people of his age to have such a problem. He has almost gone blind in one eye. Do you have any suggestions on what he can do?
if you want I can get more details about his condition.
Thank you
